This year’s conference, themed around Music and the Moving Image – The Moving Image in Music, convenes international scholars to explore the intersections of musical iconography, screen media, and contemporary sound analysis.

  • Paper Title: Howard Shore’s Music for Cinema and Video Games – The Specific Role of the Leitmotiv in Both Media

  • Session: Paper Session 2: Interactive Media (Chaired by Christine Hoppe)

  • Date & Time: Thursday, 3 September 2026 | 13:30 – 15:00 (Berlin time)

  • Venue: Universität der Künste Berlin, Fasanenstraße 1b, Berlin, Germany

  • Institutional Affiliation: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS)

My paper examines the structural and thematic evolution of the leitmotif across linear and interactive audiovisual forms, analysing Howard Shore’s compositional techniques for cinematic narrative alongside non-linear game environments.
